SUMMARY:Gestalt Projects
DESCRIPTION:Gestalt Projects features collaborative performances between art and dance that utilize the processes of embodied movement research to explore reconciliation\, processing grief and loss\, longing\, and angst. Gestalt Projects utilizes dance as embodied movement research to illustrate how the autonomic nervous system (ANS)\, as explored through the polyvagal theory\, art-based research\, and Gestalt Therapy\, converges in a single methodology. This embodiment movement research revealed implicit wisdom by offering movement material for dance. In this context\, embodiment encompasses several aspects: proprioception (awareness of movement in space)\, neuroception (awareness of internal sensations)\, embodied relational awareness (the sensations in the body in relationship with the other and the field)\, and the expression of one’s inner sensations through the arts (art-based research). After describing embodied movement research through the lens of polyvagal theory\, art-based research\, and Gestalt Therapy\, and how these approaches converge into a unified methodology\, dance pieces will be presented to illustrate this phenomenon through dance films. \nShort dance films that are between 2 to 5 minutes each \nEnglish and some Portuguese \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\nGiselle Ruzany – United States \nPh.D.\, L.P.C.\, R-DMT\, is a Gestalt therapist\, artist\, researcher\, contemporary choreographer\, dance educator\, and mindful movement practitioner. She is licensed to practice in Colorado\, Virginia\, Florida\, and Washington\, DC\, where she currently operates in Woodley Park. In her movement-based trauma-informed psychotherapy sessions\, she integrates mindful movement and embodied inquiry. Fluent in both Portuguese and English\, Ruzany frequently travels between her two homes in Rio de Janeiro and Washington\, DC. She is particularly interested in the intersection of dance and psychology\, exploring how the somatic experience informs both fields to foster healing and connection. Ruzany has published chapters and articles\, teaches at Antioch University\, and has presented her work at various conferences\, symposiums\, theaters\, and universities. \nwww.gestaltdance.com

SUMMARY:“The wound is the place where the Light enters you” - When Fear of Commitment Meets Fear of Abandonment
DESCRIPTION:Opposites attract.Opposites make a whole. Therefore Opposites are complementary. \nSo perhaps it’s no surprise that fear often meets longing. In relational dynamics\, it is almost naturally organised: the person who fears commitment is often drawn to the one who fears abandonment. \nOn one side: “I’m scared of love and attachment.”On the other: “I long for love and attachment.” \nThis pairing can easily become fertile ground for toxic patterns – but it can also become a space for healing.\nIn this session\, we will explore how individuals carrying these fears often embody deep pain\, unheard wounds\, and struggle to be in relationships with flexibility and grace. \nTogether\, we will gently address this phenomenon\, open space for growth\, and explore grounding practices that may support transformation. \nGuiding Question:\nHow can we turn a toxic relational pattern into a nurturing one? \nIn This Session\, We Will: Explore how our relational fears show up in our thoughts\, words\, and actions Witness and reflect on the patterns that unfold in our relational field Engage with our emotional truth through creative expression Methods Used: Writing Drawing Collage / Photography Movement \nEnglish \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\n \nSophia Sisauri – United Arab Emirates \nHi\, I’m Sophia.\nI experience myself as an intriguing person with bulk of insecurities.\nMy ways to passion and meaning go through dance and movement. \nMusic is my grounding – a wake up call to my well hidden self. Self that I look up to. \nStill figuring out how to be present without music in my ears. \nI’ve been holding in for quite some time.\nRecently I connected to my need to express\, let go and let be. \nI’ve been hosting group and individual spaces for witnessing and supporting for an year now. \nJoin me with curiosity and readiness for unguarded being.\nI’m sure we can exchange something beautiful with one another. \nInstagram

SUMMARY:How to use drawing in a therapy session?
DESCRIPTION:How can you actually make suggestions adapted to your therapeutic strategies\, to the short format of a therapy session or to the client’s needs? \nDrawing is very easy to implement because it requires few resources and space. Howere\, I have often heard trainees or colleagues say they loved artistic medias but didn’t dare offer them in sessions due to a lack of practice or confidence. Such a shame to deprive your client of these tools when they can be incentives to awareness and putting words on sensations or feelings. \nHere is a practical workshop where you will experiment 2 or 3 differents types of “exercices”. For mental health and social workers professionals who – need a toolbox adapted to the format of a therapy session\n– want to get test and experience the effects of drawing before daring offering creative media in a session\n– want to learn while recharging their batteries \nFor the workshop\, you will need basic drawing materials. 5 to 10 white sheets of paper\, felt-tip color pens\, pencil\, ballpoint pen\, eraser. \nRepresenting (the body\, the social environment) / Understanding here and now with drawing / Self support to use out of the session \nEnglish \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\nSeverine Bourguignon – France \nGestalt-therapist (ECP) working with individuals and groups in Paris. As a former visual artist and illustrator\, she proposes workshops about how to use creative medias in therapy. She has created an original board of cards about resistances (contact interruptions and disturbances) in Gestalt-therapy.\nShe is also the founder of the Street Listeners\, an association that offers free listening in the street with a team of volunteer therapists.\nRead her article about the Squiggle game to be published in Revue Gestalt n°64 available on Cairn.info. \nhttps://www.severine-bourguignon-therapie.com/

SUMMARY:Creativity in memory of Tine *rescheduled- new date pending*
DESCRIPTION:Due to an unforseeable change in circumstances\, the memorial workshop for Tine will be re-scheduled at a later date in the program currently being determined. Apologies for the late notice. \n \nThe Being Present Community presents:\nWhat is the Question?\nPossibilties\n– does anyone love you?\n– how do you get what you need\n– can you hear your inner voice?\n– and more in the 77 Right Questions\nAccording to Perls:\n‘No individual is self sufficient; the individual can exist only in an environmental field. The individual is inevitably\, at every moment\, a part of some field\, which includes both him and his environment. The nature of the relationship between him and his environment determines the human being’s behavior. With this new outlook\, the environment and the organism stand in a relationship of mutuality to one another.’\nIn this workshop we focus on the major goal in Gestalt Therapy: ‘heal the splits’ within the personal sub-systems – mind\, body and soul – .\nMeditation:\n– which roles did you play as a child in the hope to be loved?\n– how did you manipulate?\nWriting ± 10 minutes\nIdentify with the child you were to become aware of the roles you are playing in your present life!\nMeaning: to be heard\, to be seen\, to be loved as you are\nMore in the 77 Right Questions \nAwareness by Writing and Drawing/Painting \nEnglish \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\nTine van Wijk – Netherlands \nStarted her Gestalt Practice in 1988 in Amsterdam. SUMMARY:The use of images in the model of dance steps (Session 2)
DESCRIPTION:Aesthetic and phenomenological nature of contacting among humans with grace\, vitality and spontaneity has been captured in Gestalt therapy through various concepts and models. In our workshop we aim to focus on two – the use of photography and Lobb’s model of “dance steps” in Gestalt therapy. The concept of “dance steps” is developed by Spagnuolo Lobb (2017\, 2017a\, 2017b\, 2023\, 2023a). This model allows us to understand contacting process between both – caregiver and child – in developmental psychology\, however it can be transferred in adult therapy field to capture contacting process between the therapist and the client without losing its accuracy. This model defines eight phases of contacting in co-creating field: 1. Building together the sense of the ground; 2. Perceiving one another; 3. Acknowledging one another; 4. Adjusting to one another; 5. Taking bold steps together; 6. Having fun; 7. Connecting; 8. Entrusting oneself to the other/Taking care of the other. These steps are unique and visible in every contact made between humans. Another concept we want to focus on is how photography and images can represent powerful medium to connect with inner processes\, contacting the other and the world and understanding your body resonance in the here and now. Photography is a visual art and as such it emphasizes visual perception that lead humans’ psychological experience with the aim of aesthetic pleasure (Chuang et al.\, 2023). Use of photographs or photographic material as an aid in personal growth of clients has been confirmed as successful across various population (Cannavo et al.\, 2021; Doric\, 2017; Hogan\, 2022; Loewenthal\, 2023). \nDuring this experiential workshop we will facilitate the process of contacting among participants by using photographic material and leading the therapeutic process through eight dance steps following Lobb’s model in Gestalt therapy. Participants will re-connect with their inner processes and body resonance within the aesthetic field co-created with the other and through provided photographic material. These personal experiences are expected to be shared in the group process and contribute to the overall group dynamic and experience during this workshop. \nPhotography \n3 Sessions \nEnglish \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\nMichele Cannavo – Italy \nPsychiatrist specializing at the University of Catania and Gestalt psychotherapist. SUMMARY:Micro-Changes and Self Care BMS© Gestalt Art Therapy
DESCRIPTION:Micro Changes and Self-Care BMS© through Art\nIn the demanding field of mental health and psychotherapy\, self-care is often overlooked or deprioritised. The Power of Micro Changes in Self-Care: Integrating Body\, Mind\, and Spirit through Gestalt Art Therapy invites professionals to reflect on the transformative impact of small\, intentional actions. Grounded in Gestalt Therapy principles\, this session emphasises awareness\, responsibility\, and the integration of experience as the foundation of holistic well-being.\nThrough the framework of Gestalt Art Therapy\, participants will explore how micro changes—minor yet meaningful shifts in daily activities—can significantly enhance self-support and professional resilience. The Body-Mind-Spirit (BMS©) model will guide this exploration\, encouraging participants to consider the interconnectedness of:\n• Body – physical movement\, nourishment\, and breath awareness\n• Mind – thought awareness\, emotional regulation\, and mindful attention\n• Spirit – creative expression\, meaning-making\, and connection to something greater\nThis integrative approach empowers therapists to develop personalised self-care routines that honour their unique rhythms\, limitations\, and environments. Participants will engage in experiential and reflective activities grounded in Gestalt methods\, enhancing their awareness of current needs\, patterns of resistance\, and habitual avoidances. By focusing on the here and now\, small shifts become sustainable practices that nurture presence and vitality.\nBy the end of the session\, attendees will be equipped to integrate micro changes that support their ability to be present—with themselves and others—ultimately strengthening the therapeutic presence and preventing burnout.\nLearning Objectives\nParticipants will be able to:\n1. Identify and implement at least three micro changes related to physical movement\, breathwork\, or nutrition to support bodily awareness and regulation.\n2. Create a personalised self-care plan incorporating at least two strategies (e.g. mindfulness\, awareness practices) and two spiritual or creative practices (e.g. meditation\, time in nature).\n3. Complete a reflective journal or self-assessment documenting the impact of their micro changes on well-being and therapeutic presence\, demonstrating increased self-awareness and Gestalt-informed self-care. \nDrawing/ Painting/ Guided fantasy/ Self care \n2 Sessions \nEnglish \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\nYaro Starak – Australia\nB.A.\, M.S.W\, Adv. SUMMARY:The end is in the beginning or I'm still standing
DESCRIPTION:Every story begins somewhere —\nin the life of a person\,\nin the heart of a creature\,\nin the birth of the world itself. \nBut where does an ending begin?\nAnd when does a beginning touch the edge of an ending? \nWithin us\, endings stir excitement — and beginnings awaken fear.\nBeginnings overwhelm; endings leave us in awe. \nPicture flowers\, scorched by snow\, holding their form.\nPicture them again\, rising from the ashes.\nLife pulses even in the ruins.\nThe end is everywhere\, and so is the beginning —\nboth are miracles of this world. \nThis workshop is an invitation to walk the cycles of life.\nTo follow the eternal rhythm of contact.\nTo explore meaning together —\nand to co-create a living synthesis of beginnings and endings\, stretching through space and time. \nOpen to adults ready to create\, to witness\, and to share.\nThe final creation will be presented to an audience as the shared work of all participants \nWe will aim at grounding and defining the qualities the “psychic topos” has whithin each one of us\, a visionary safe space. The workshop is tailored so each participant from their place\, can explore the cycle of beginning and ending\, according to their personal experiences. It will include work in small groups\, movement\, and any kind of performance (playing an instrument\, singing\, etc). There is a simple structure that will be presented to the participants\, who are free to shape it in any other way if needed\, and which will be presented to an audience (people who have been registered in other Humans of Gestalt conference). The presentation and call for feedback from the audience will be included in the three hour workshop. \n2 Sessions \nEnglish \nZoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82878441618?pwd=lpIfJ74KKiv6ZV2LZarokM2G1Mn8WB.1 \nMeeting ID: 828 7844 1618\nPasscode: BeArt \n\n \nAnna Mertzani – Greece \nA Greek Gestalt psychotherapist\, with a background in pre-school education\, photography and Acting studies and an M.A in Child Care\, Law and Practice focused on child abuse cases\, The last five years\, her psychotheraputic experiece has expanded in the refugee field as a co-ordinator of an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals. SUMMARY:The use of images in the model of dance steps
SUMMARY:Decolonizing Gestalt *NEW DATE*
DESCRIPTION: \n“The truth is\, no one of us can be free until everybody is free.” – Maya Angelou \n\nColonialism is not an event of the past – it is a living modern system of suppression by dominant Western Euro-American paradigms that preserve colonial demarcations of power and privilege proliferated through dimensions of power\, institutions\, and being. Decolonization is not an end goal – it is an ongoing process in the direction of creating a world that is equitable and just.\nFor us to re-imagine and co-create new ways of relating with each other\, we need to first decolonize ourselves and our systems. We need to recognize that we all carry remnants of colonization. \nFor Gestalt to remain relevant and to be a force of liberation\, it needs to critically examine itself. \nWe will critically examine and name the growing edges of Gestalt\, as a system of knowledge and as a global community. \nOur Approach:\nFor us to lean into I-THOU in a holistic way we need to account for our power differentials and our different social-cultural context\, the workshop offers opportunities to engage in:\n(1) critical consciousness and reflexivity \n(2) embodiment of decolonizing and liberation praxis \n(3) dialogical seeing and listening to “Other-ness”\, and \n(4) envisioning a shared decolonized Gestalt future.\nWith welcoming yet provocative dialogue\, we will create an experience for participants to engage with critical consciousness in an embodied way\, with the intention of leading some experiential shift in the way we perceive the world.\nThe overall process brings up content for learning\, provides time for individuals to reflect and consider their own context for learning and potential action\, and allows participants to engage in a flexible process framework that seeks to give a more liberatory spatial experience.\nThe organizers have facilitated similar group processes in different Gestalt spaces over the last few years. These Gestaltists bring with them richness\, diversity\, and wisdom from different professional backgrounds (psychotherapist\, organizational development consultant\, coach\, attorney\, and advocate) whose expertise is informed by lived experience in Asia\, Australia\, and North America. \n \nKirti Singh (she/her)\, MA\, GPCC\, PCC is a Clinical Therapist\, a certified Executive Coach\, and a Group Facilitator who brings with her a decade of knowledge and understanding of self and different systems. As a Clinical Therapist\, Kirti provides supervised therapy services to individuals\, couples\, and groups at Toronto Psychological Services & Research Centre. She is an Experienced Professional Certified Coach offering Executive Coaching services to mid-senior level leaders; specializes in creating leadership workshops and leading group facilitation sessions. She is serving as a Teaching Faculty at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland\, Ohio. She has lived and worked in Canada\, the USA\, and India adding to her experience of working with clients from culturally diverse backgrounds. \nMartha Potts (Bibi) (she/her)\, PhD left a career in public transit to pursue a doctorate in organizational behavior at Case Western Reserve University. Her research conducted in Rwanda\, Africa\, focused on human systems transformation. Upon completion of her travels\, she worked in the non-profit sector where her passions continued to evolve. She recently ended retirement to join ThirdSpace Action Lab where she functions as the Awareness\nBuilding Manager. She is currently immersed in understanding ways in which Gestalt theory can support and nurture the multidimensionality of Black identities in a society in which systems\, institutions\, and policies are designed to disenfranchise them. \nMargaret Yao (she/her)\, MBA\, ICF ACC\, GPCC coaches executives and emerging leaders who seek to live their values and bring their whole identities and talents to bear on work worth doing. Margaret also does group facilitation and teaches at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland\, where she trained. Recent coaching clients include leaders in democracy-related spaces\, climate action\, diplomacy\, and human rights. Prior to serving as Chief People Officer of Democracy Fund\, a private foundation that she helped establish\, she led or facilitated organizational change in nonprofits and government and has published on leadership and inclusion. \nMaya Simek (she/her)\, ESQ\, LISW-S\, MSSA\, serves as a Clinical Law Professor/Director of Case Western Reserve School of Law’s Human Trafficking Law Project. Ms. Simek further serves as the Legal Director at Equality Ohio\, where she developed\, launched (2019)\, and is now supervising a state-wide legal clinic for the lesbian gay bisexual transgender queer (LGBTQ+) community. Ms. Simek focuses her practice on the interdisciplinary issues\nimpacting the LGBTQ+ community and human trafficking survivors\, community lawyering\, and the intersections between law and social work. \nZoom ID A: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/85675525658?pwd=bR4CSv9gJDR6L2abHKXOs3zRArqnwX.1 \nID de reunión: 856 7552 5658\nCódigo de acceso: Open24 \nIn case you have an error with the first zoom meeting\, use Zoom ID B: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/88528851454?pwd=pxhvCpdR4dCZcHoX6YFEHZ6kjesdnG.1 \nID de reunión: 885 2885 1454\nCódigo de acceso: Open2024

SUMMARY:The Painful Legacies of Race and Class: Exploring the Impact of White Supremacy and Anti-Blackness on Contact and Intimacy
DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Jones & Alison Gerig \nPhiladelphia\, United States \nAbstract\nVery few countries throughout the globe have escaped the impacts of imperialism\, colonization\, genocides\, and slave trades. These historical and current experiences of supremacy\, dominance and oppression create in many people legacies of dehumanization and disconnection. These internalized\, often out-of-awareness fixed gestalts of race\, class\, and ethnicity guide how we engage with one another and block contact and intimacy. The first step in having the freedom to choose how to loosen the hold of these fixed gestalts is to bring them into embodied awareness. Attendees are invited to witness and engage with the disruptions of contact that two queer Gestalt therapists have navigated in building intimacy and connection at the intersectional contact boundaries of race and class in the United States. Alison and Jennifer\, who have been friends and colleagues for over two decades\, will share their challenges and learnings in examining their intimacy and contact through racialized and classed lenses. They will model this experiment by using an embodied awareness approach. Attendees will then have an opportunity to explore their own challenges with creating intimacy at these intersectional boundaries of race\, class\, and ethnicity and will be invited to experiment bringing into awareness their own somatic experiences. \nPresenter Bio \nJennifer C. Jones\, PhD\, LCSW\, is a 54 y.o.\, multiracial Black\, queer\, fairly able-bodied\, cisgender woman with U.S. citizenship. Jennifer incorporates an economics human rights perspective\, a harm reduction framework\, and Gestalt Therapy principles in her work and engagement with others. She co-founded Rising Caps Collective with Aisha Mohammed\, LMFT\, supporting expansive healing to address traumatic legacies of colonization\, slavery and capitalism. Jennifer works with Lykos Therapeutics (formerly\, Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies Public Benefit Corporation) as a Justice\, Equity\, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) consultant and a MDMA-assisted Therapy educator. Since 2003\, Jennifer has practiced trauma-informed psychotherapy and clinical supervision with individuals and therapists working with people identifying as: lgbqa; transgender or gender non-binary; people of color; sex workers; neurodiverse\, substance users; experiencing class oppression; formerly incarcerated and/or having a positive HIV status. Previously\, she served as the Chief DEI Officer of Philadelphia FIGHT Community Health Centers and as a member of the faculty and leadership of the Gestalt Training Institute of Philadelphia (GTIP). As a parent who believes a just world is possible\, Jennifer is committed to the unity of the global poor and dispossessed organizing across color lines to fight for everyone’s economic human rights. \nAlison Gerig has been a Gestalt therapist since 2009 when she attended the Gestalt Training Institute of Philadelphia (GTIP). She holds a commitment to disrupting the ways in which we uphold White supremacy within the psychotherapy field. She strives to bring a liberatory lens to her clinical work that focuses on undoing fixed gestalts stemming from the relational and dominant cultural fields that then manifest into depression\, anxiety\, shame\, hopelessness\, self-critique\, illness\, and disconnection from being fully present in the here and now. Using the therapeutic relationship as a healing anchor\, Alison offers gestalt theory\, embodiment/somatic\, and parts work opportunities to undo these introjects and begin to create new meanings and choices about being members of our cultures\, communities\, families\, and relationship to ourselves. Alison currently lives and works on the stolen land of the Lenni Lenape people (Philadelphia\, PA). She is white\, queer\, able-bodied\, spiritual\, comes from generational wealth in the southern United States\, and is raising a spriteful teenager. She loves to bake\, play the piano\, and find joy with her loved ones.\nhttps://www.alisongerig.com \ntype (workshop/ popup/ process) \nWorkshop/experiential \nlanguage \nEnglish – We welcome any translators who are willing to translate

SUMMARY:Just another human being-The metapmorphosis of the psychotherapist
DESCRIPTION:Radmila Zivanovic \nSkopje\, North Macedonia \nAbstract \nIn this session of exploration\, I will invite you into exploration of the lived and still alive experience of being psychotherapist while being just an another human being. We are going to explore the ongoing change and development but also the moments of stagnation\, withdrawal and giving up. Holding to the humanity and giving back the extraordinarity of the role\, still keeping the uniquness and the tendency to construct and decosntruct\, to build and destroy. All this moments are complex interplay of the capacities and sensitivity of the psychotherapist\, specificity of the field\, the context\, developmental and life-specific issues\, the things we aspire to\, the weaknesses/biases that we are aware of and the meaning we give to life. We all part of our special transformational journey that very often we do not pay attention\, we do not share it\, we take it for granted\, we forget to embrace it and celebrate it. This session\, is one of those oportunities to create of what we have experienced and discovered\, a self-nurturing and self-reflective experience of the role we invest most of our grown up lives. \nPresenter Bio \nRadmila Zivanovic is licenced psycholosgist\, EAGT psychotherapist\, trainer and supervisor. I work in my private practice in Republic of North Macedonia for 10 years now. At the same time I feel I am more than the limits and can be less than the opportunities. I am very curious\, creative\, active and funny. Like to move out very often from the professional rutine by enhansing the contact with what is more human\, imperfect and grounded aspect of my therapeutic role. I consider myself as a psychotherapist and not only gestalt psychotherapist.\nhttps://gestaltinstitutesinergija.mk/team/radmila-zivanovic/ \ntype (workshop/ popup/ process) \nProcess group- part 1 \nlanguage \nEnglish
